The microscope magnifies the surgeons view of the area that being operated on and allowing it to be more exact and clear in examining. An added benefit is a monitor that projects an image of the organs that the surgeon is currently working on. This allows students and interns to observe the entire procedure, gaining extra and valuable knowledge in how to operate the microscope for intracranial surgery.. These procedures and modalities include Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, stereotactic image guided surgery, microscopic surgery, lasers, and endoscopic surgery. The result has been better outcomes, less morbidity and mortality and higher patient satisfaction. Management of intracranial abnormalities has progressed rapidly over the past decade. Northwest Neurological Surgery (NWNS) is the oldest private neurosurgical group practice in Seattle. they helped to pioneer the use of modern microsurgical techniques, performing the first microdiscectomy in the Northwest and were among the first to utilize the operating microscope for intracranial surgery. Intracranial surgery encompasses all fields within surgery, as well as biomedical imaging and instrumentation, and digital technology employed as an adjunct to imaging in diagnosis, therapeutics, and surgery. In the early history, there were two microscopes are made: The Simple and Compound Microscopes. The compound microscopes was discover during the late 16th century in Holland, by Zacharias Janssen and his father they discovered that using two lenses to greatly aided in magnification. It uses two lenses -an objective and an eyepiece lens. Chromatic and Spherical aberrations in the lens are the problems in compound microscope at that time, which gave a single lens microscope an advantage both in clarity and magnifying power. However, this problem is resolved by the year 19th century. Microscopes until that time had been designed based on experience and the creation had no scientific grounds. In the year 1840-1905 a German named Ernst Abbe, established a method to design microscopes utilizing logical calculations. (more…)

1.When taking care of the microscope, we must carry it carefully or moving it by using with our both hands. Hold the arm of the microscope with one hand and place the other hand under the base for support. 2.The lowest power objective lens is clicked into position, if we turn the revolving nosepiece of the microscope. This is also known as the shortest objective lens. 3.We must use or prepare a cover slip or cover glass over the specimen for the microscope slide. This can help by protecting the objective lenses if they touch the slide, and fasten it with the stage clips when placing the microscope on the stage. To open the stage clip just easily push down at the back end. 4.By looking at the objective lens and the stage from the side, and to move the objective lens downward just turn the coarse focus knob or the stage, if it moves, it goes upward. MICROBIOLOGY A branch of biology dealing especially with microscopic forms of life. The science of microbiology started with the invention of microscope. The first person to use a microscope for academic study is the English scientist Robert Hooke 1660s. In the year 1665 Hook published his landmark book MICROGRAPHIA, this book describes the microscopic world for the first time. He studied plant sections, in particular cork and he drew what he saw, which a matrix of tiny cylindrical likes structures he called CELLS. And many of the researchers saw such structures in all types of living organism and Hookes naming remained. Now a day, it is considered to be a foundation stone in the understanding of microbiology. Willen Church in Buckinghamshire, England, was designed by Robert Hooke who also discovered Hookes Law and the Great Red Spot on the planet Jupiter. In continental Europe other scientist, such as MARCELLO MALPIGHI in Italy and Antoine Van Leeuwenhoek in the Netherlands, were using microscopes to view or look to look at the animal and plant tissue. Use of the same operating microscope in the field of dentistry has just started recently in Western Europe and parts of America is a new service which is now scatter around in different country, slowly but surely. is just starting to become available in India. It will soon become a standard feature in advanced dental clinics in the future here in India as well as around the world. And the highly improved quality of the fillings, RCT’s, crown and bridge preparations and various other procedures which can be done with the microscope make the patient smile even more.The use of the same operating microscope in the field of dentistry has just started recently in Western Europe and parts of America. The dentist who uses the microscope is much more comfortable and avoids undue strain on his neck and back. The up-right posture can be maintained during almost all procedures, which is otherwise impossible. (more…)
