1.When taking care of the microscope, we must carry it carefully or moving it by using with our both hands. Hold the arm of the microscope with one hand and place the other hand under the base for support. 2.The lowest power objective lens is clicked into position, if we turn the revolving nosepiece of the microscope. This is also known as the shortest objective lens. 3.We must use or prepare a cover slip or cover glass over the specimen for the microscope slide. This can help by protecting the objective lenses if they touch the slide, and fasten it with the stage clips when placing the microscope on the stage. To open the stage clip just easily push down at the back end. 4.By looking at the objective lens and the stage from the side, and to move the objective lens downward just turn the coarse focus knob or the stage, if it moves, it goes upward.
Then move it as far as it will go without touching the slide. 5.After that, look through the eyepiece and adjust the mirror or the illuminator and diaphragm for the greatest amount of light. 6. In order the objective lens will goes up far from the slide, you must slowly turn the coarse adjustment and continue until the image comes into focus. For focusing use the fine adjustment, if available. If the microscope has a moving stage, then turn the coarse knob so the stage moves downward or away from the objective lens. 7.If you want the image is in the center, move the microscope slide around or readjust the mirror, diaphragm or the illuminator for the clearest image. 8.Use fine adjustment, by changing to the next objective lenses with minimal use of the focusing adjustment. To focus on your specimen, repeat steps 4 through 7 with higher power objective lens in place.
Remember that the slide must not touch the objective lens. 9.Looking through the eyepiece at one eye is the proper way to use the monocular microscope and also to keep the other eye open will help avoid eye strain. In microscope everything is upside down and backwards. The object or the image will go to the left, if you move the slide to the right. 10.If the microscope has a hundred times oil immersion lens, we must put one to two drops of immersion oil over the slide cover slip before viewing it at highest power.
11.We must not touch the glass part of the lenses with our fingers. When cleaning use only special lens paper for the lenses. 12.Lower the stage or raise the tube when finished, and to remove the slide just slowly click the low power lens into position. 13.Cover your microscope when not in use or keep it away from dust, because the dust destroys some other parts of the microscope when it is not properly kept. 14.Microscopes can last for many years, so we must handle them properly and carefully because they are expensive to buy.
